Thursley Horticultural Society has been a backbone of village life for many years. It continues to play a large part in the social calendar, with its shows providing keenly fought contests for gardening accolades given to many categories of vegetables and flowers. There are also competitions for handicrafts, cookery and others, plus various children’s sections.
There are three shows a year: Spring (April), Summer (July) and Autumn. The Society also holds a fund-raising plant sale in May, and organises occasional outings and speakers.
All new members are welcome, and annual membership costs just £3.50 per person.
There is regular Horticultural Society news in the parish magazine, and the Society’s Secretary is Jane Johnson, who you can contact on 01252 703139 for further details.
The next event of the Society is “Making Sense of the Weather”, an illustrated talk by Ian Currie at the Village Hall at 8.00pm on Wednesday 14th October.
